NSW: Ombudsman recommends police report publicly on complaints
The New South Wales ombudsman has called on the police force to publicly report onhow well it manages complaints.
Ombudsman BRUCE BARBOUR says the community can be confident that most complaints againstpolice are handled well, but some local commanders could do better.
He says senior police need to ensure that recent gains aren't lost.
He's urged the police to report publicly on its performance in managing complaints.
The ombudsman has also urged the police to develop standards for police investigationsand to hold commanders to account for meeting those benchmarks.
