Fed: my govt not on the skids - Howard
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has conceded voters might be itchy for a change after eight
years of his government.
The coalition government has consistently trailed Labor in newspaper polls recently.
Yesterday's Newspoll put Labor's two-party preferred vote at 53 per cent against 47
per cent for the coalition.
Mr HOWARD's told Melbourne radio 3AW that his government isn't on the skids.
But he says winning the election will be tough because people might be ready for a
change after eight years of his government.
The Prime Minister says it's his job to persuade people that a change in government
would be a change for the worse, and could risk Australia's economic strength and stability.
He says the timing of the election will only have a marginal impact.
