Three shows in one. That's probably the best way to describe the ongoing exhibit by New York City-based artists at the University at Albany Art Museum. It's not so much a single installation as it is a collection of three exhibits, each with its own artist and title. Jean Shin's exhibit includes sculptures made of prescription bottles and a net woven from those yellow plastic straps used to rein in bundles of papers. John F. Simon Jr. assembled computer codes to create a mesmerizing installation based on jazz and New York's street grid. Nina Bovasso's intricate drawings collect tiny motifs, like flowers, and have the feel of architecture and fabric.
"We thought they would be three artists that could activate the space in their own way," said Corinna Schaming, associate director and curator at the museum. "Each one of them has very similar threads running through their work."
The exhibit is part of an effort by the museum to bring "museum-quality" artists to the campus, according to director Janet Riker.
Their work has been shown or collected by major art museums in New York City, and they have exhibited throughout the world. The exhibition …
