Fed: Downer rules out sanction against Israel
The Australian government has ruled out withdrawing diplomatic staff from Israel orimposing sanctions -- despite growing criticism of Israel's occupation of the West Bank.
Foreign Affairs Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER says imposing sanctions would achieve nothing.
And he says there are no plans to withdraw consular staff from the war-torn region.
Mr DOWNER says these would be provocative actions, and would hardly be likely to makethe Israelis move their troops out of the Palestinian territories.
