Fed: Wool growers urged to back 2 p/c levy

Australian wool growers are being urged to continue to pay a two per cent levy to fundresearch and development.

Australian Wool Innovation, which is supported by the levy, will encourage growersto back the two per cent rate over lower options.

Every two years, the nation's 30,000 wool growers vote on the levy.

Growers are being offered a rate from zero up to three per cent.

IAN MCLACHLAN, chairman of the research and development company that's owned by Australianwool growers, says the two per cent levy is the minimum needed for wool research to keeppace with other fibres, technological change and consumer demand.

Voting on the levy closes on November the 7th.
