Fed: PM announces extra troops for Solomons=2
Mr HOWARD .. speaking in Brisbane .. says the commitment follows a written request
from the Solomon Islands government.
He says 110 soldiers from Townsville will leave on four RAAF C130 transport planes
today .. and arrive at the Solomons tonight.
An additional 70 Australian Federal Police will be sent to join the 282 officers already
stationed in the area.
The AFP has sought back-up after 17 of its officers were injured during riots in parts
of the capital .. Honiara.
